The joy of being the new Indian Woman
By Mukti Masih

Every morning as she wakes up to welcome the new day, she has hundred chores of work running through her head. Yet she looks into the mirror to catch a glimpse of a woman within herself and gears up for the day. As she struggles to get to the top of excelling in her wok at office and balances the household activities, she evolves into a better human being. Amid the professional pressures and personal setbacks, she strives to be the woman who has evolved in the 21st century. She discovers a woman who wants to make her mark in every filed she touches and satisfy every heart she longs for.

The world has seen the definition of woman change forever. But change doesn’t happen overnight. It is a metamorphosis that took centuries, numerous achievements, dozens of success stories and thousands of examples. And if the woman in India has finally attained an equivalent standing with man, she is not ready to let it go now. In fact, she has dismissed the entire debate of male dominion on the grounds that both men and women together make a good society. While psychologists have more than once testified that despite being physically weak, this ‘fairer sex’ is emotionally stronger than men, the woman of today has gone on to prove it without showing it off. She shuns her pride and submits to her better half, never compromises until it’s the question of her offspring and devotes her talent to the benefit of her employers. This way, women are actually contributing to building a strong nation.
The women of India today have actually been successful in playing the two vital roles of a professional and a home maker. Go to any private or public bank or watch any news channel, the number of female professionals may just surprise you. Most of the schools and educational institutions in India boast of women leading them, girls continue to top the academics of the country while many of them are successful models, army personnel and even train drivers.
On the lighter side, an average Indian woman is as conscious of her appearance as the women of advanced countries. She enthusiastically follows the fashion trends and also gets her clothes designed by exclusive designer shops. The grace with which she drapes her saree is automatically sustained in her persona when she goes out to work. And still she gets tempted to eat pani puri on a chaat corner or shopping around with friends in the evening. Getting her hands coloured with designer mehendi, adorning her forehead with small bindi, enhancing her lips with imported lip colour, flaunting a skirt or a kurta are many other facets of her. She is smart, polite and graceful. The average Indian woman. Kudos to her spirit!
